Homestay

HomestayThe Homestay program was the very first program that CCIS offered and is now in its 58th year.

Homestay provides incoming graduate international students, married couples or internationals with spouses/partners, and families with a 3-5-day stay with an American family before settling into their regular housing.  Couples with children are generally limited to a 3-day stay.   Homestay experiences often become the basis for life-long connections between the internationals and their host.Homestay

Incoming international students are provided with information about the Homestay program as part of the packet from Bechtel International Center during the summer before their arrival on Stanford campus.  The Homestay program matches as many international requestors as it can with American family hosts who have been approved by the Homestay program chair.  The 3-5-day stays usually occur between mid-August and the start of the Fall term.  Each year, approximately 40-50 internationals stay with Homestay families.

Homestay

The Homestay program has always been very positive from both international and host family viewpoints.  All seem to enjoy the benefits of new friends.  In particular, the internationals feel fairly settled by the time they acquire their regular housing, since their host family usually has familiarized them with the basics of living in the Stanford area.
