English Classes
Each quarter of the school year ten to twelve volunteers offer informal, weekly classes in many different aspects of American culture and English usage. Recently offered classes include:
- English for daily living—shopping, eating out, phone calls
- American idioms and current issues
- American customs and institutions
- Writing clear English
- Accent reduction
- Hot topics in American culture
- American life and humor—all media
- Communicating across cultures—comparing cultures
Most classes last an hour and a half. There are no fees, tests, or grades.
The students in these classes are visiting scholars and their families, or spouses of grad students, who are intermediate and advanced speakers who want to gain confidence in expressing their needs and ideas.
If you would like to volunteer as a substitute or to get more information about the program contact one of the two program chairs.
