English in Action

We are looking for volunteers!

If you are an international person looking for an American conversation partner, you should go to this page.

EIA is a conversational English program that matches a volunteer with an International graduate student, visiting scholar, or their spouse, to meet once a week for an hour of casual conversation and cultural exchange. The match is intended to last for one year.

You are invited to join the many volunteers who assist in this program.

Each year 250 Internationals register to be matched for an American EIA partner, so there is an ongoing need for many volunteers. The Internationals are among the best and brightest from their country, and are incredibly grateful for the help and experience. They return to their country with good will and understanding and often a good friend.

To volunteer in this rewarding program, please contact CCIS at the Bechtel International Center, 650-498-5252 or email eia at ccisstanfordu.org

Internationals who wish to have an EIA partner must apply by being interviewed at the EIA Desk, in the lobby of the I-Center. The desk is normally staffed by a CCIS volunteer from 10am to 1pm on weekdays when University classes are being held.
